A Muslim Girl goes to School

A Muslim girl goes to school, story of a single girl in a family after many brothers with a dream of father who wants to send her school, for passing her the matriculation exam. Basically in story she writes her own life story that when she got birth in a Muslim family of northern part of Kerala, on a coastal area where she experiences things like flood and all. She lives along with her grandparents their then she came at her own place. She was like a girl with full enthusiasm and wants to experience each and every moment new things so in her school also she was very good at sports and more than studies she wants to play sports more, as her father wants her to study but she wants to live her life not in that manner.
In this story as it was about the Muslim girl and which was from Kerala, where her father wants to send her school so that if she would pass exam and it will encourage other girls also so that they can study but the other part is he only wants her to study and not to enjoy or to do any other activity. Once in a story she played basketball in her school so his father told her that don’t do this that even in our society we are sending you to school only for study but this thing she can’t get that these things. Along with that her mother part is like she was secular in religion thing like reading their religion book in Hindu people house and she has her views in that thing but in behaving of her girl or to send her school she was not in favour of that. Whenever if she does not want to study or anything happens which make any possibility to make her out of school she will be happy. She only wants to get her marry as other and even in Muslim society according to thinking there is more restriction to these girls than other.
In the story, this was basically an autobiographical narrative of the author of her life time story, how she was able to write it and have in position to get a chance to go to school. I found it like as I am reading it I can imagine things what was happening their but not exactly because we can’t imagine those years but a basic picture and then the restriction or things which parents generally told girls to behave in a certain way don’t do it like this and all. So all these things are connectable to a reader basically it is transactional because in our group discussion also we got up with many example not from Kerala but from other parts of country like Rajasthan, are their girls able to go to school.

So this story is very helpful in able to connect in sociocultural aspects and in a literary elements we could use this story for middle school level children in language and it will be the good narrative for social science studies also.

  1. I think navneet the sense of the plot was strong in your write as you used it strongly but , I think that the use of the rest of the characters was not done strongly. If analyse the rest of the part of the story we can say the description which you have done was good.
